Start: Millbrook
End: Plymouth
Miles: 9
Total miles: 411
After a restful night, we woke and began to put down the tent. The winds were calmer making for a much less chaotic process than last night. After breakfast we picked up the path and headed towards Rame head. I was happy the fog had lifted so Laura would finally get some views to appreciate and she could look across the bay back to Looe to see our progress. Although there were still hills and step climbs, the route was a little easier than the previous day. By lunch time we had reached the ferry at Cremyll that took us over to Plymouth. The ferry was just leaving but luckily waited for us to board. Laura had walked around 21 miles, carrying a heavy pack and climbed a significant number of steep hills. I was grateful for her company and for supporting me on my adventure. By the end she was ready to sit on a train and have some comfort but I was satisfied to hear that she felt it was all worth it. Here's her take:
"When I agreed to join Amy for two days on the South West Coastal Path I didn't know what to expect but I certainly didn't expect it to be that tough! Within the first hour of walking I had climbed what felt like 50 hills and wondered if it would get easier. However once the path levelled out I understood why Amy had spent the previous 30 days putting herself through this- it felt so rewarding! I'm writing this from a comfortable train and must say I won't miss the shoulder pain but it's a small price to pay for the views and it was a great experience!"
Once Laura left I headed to my B&B for the night. I will spend the remainder of today planning phase 6, resting and refuelling. Today feels like a significant milestone. The 300 mile stretch of the Cornish coast is behind me. It's not been without it's challenges but it has definitely been worth it. Cornwall is a wonderful county and I feel very satisfied to have covered this land on foot. From here I'll return to Devon to complete the South Coast, with around 200 miles and 13 days between me and home. I'm really happy to have made it this far and am ready to discover what South Devon has to offer.
Wow, well done Laura. That is true friendship supporting Amy in this way. I feel sure there will have been a good amount of laughs along the way to keep you both going. This really is a great boost to Amy until she is joined again towards the home straight.
Amy, two full phases left to complete this amazing challenge. How do you feel about this? Mixed feelings I suspect. More phases completed than are left to do though, so that must bring a smile to your face. The 400 mile mark well achieved. Some good stodgy calories in you. What's not to like.
Keep at it girl! We're all right behind you. Metaphorically😉 Gx
Really well done, Laura! And Amy, that target is getting closer and closer. Hang in there! Cheers. Nick
